The Garland City Council is considering an ordinance that would amend the Garland Development Code to expressly establish STRs as a distinct land use and specify the zoning districts in which that use may be permitted.
The proposed ordinance would generally allow new STRs by right in the Light Commercial and Heavy Commercial Districts and within a Planned Development District only when expressly authorized by the applicable PD ordinance.
The use would otherwise be prohibited.
The proposed ordinance also contains a limited continuation provision applicable to certain properties holding a valid City STR permit on its effective date.
A public hearing regarding the proposed ordinance will be held as follows:
Hearing body: City of Garland Plan Commission Date and time: Monday, September 28, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.
Dollar Municipal Building (City Hall), Council Chambers, 200 North Fifth Street, Garland, Texas 75040
